In ‘Made in SG’ Melanie Oliveiro speaks with Singapore-based Malaysian author Sunita Sue Leng about her novel "The Unlikely Motherhood of Shaleni May" – an Epigram Books Fiction Prize 2025 finalist. It’s about 45-year-old protagonist Shaleni May, happily married to her husband. When both decide to adopt a newborn, this launches Shaleni into an alien new life of digital-age parenting as she battles self-doubt and a looming threat from her husband’s past. Sunita will discuss the plot and various issues brought up in her novel including mature parenting, adoption and societal expectations.
