CNA938 Rewind - Johor’s postnatal confinement centres gain traction with Singapore parents

More Singaporean mothers are opting for confinement centres in Johor Bahru, drawn by lower costs and resort-like amenities compared to similar facilities in Singapore. These centres offer full-service postnatal care, with packages often half the price of local ones. Doctors, however, warn that cross-border travel soon after childbirth may pose health risks to both mothers and newborns. Andrea Heng finds out more with Audrey Tay, who took up postnatal confinement service in JB after delivering her first child and Associate Professor Yong Tze Tein, Senior Consultant, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Singapore General Hospital.

CNA938 Rewind - Raising awareness to call for ambulance when someone is having a stroke

A recent study by Stroke Support Station (S3) found that only about 40 % of people in Singapore knew to call an ambulance when encountering someone having a stroke, despite high awareness of stroke symptoms. Meanwhile, stroke incidence in Singapore has risen sharply: from nearly 6,000 cases in 2010 to about 9,700 cases in 2022. Andrea Heng looks at the public perceptions about stroke and identify the gaps with Dr Sanjeev Shanker, HOD at Thomson Medical's Urgent Care Centre.

A study by the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) found that 68% of Singapore youths aged 18–35 are actively or passively seeking new jobs despite high employment rates. The research also revealed a gap between youths’ and employers’ expectations – youths value communication skills most, while employers prioritise problem-solving.
