A recent study by Stroke Support Station (S3) found that only about 40 % of people in Singapore knew to call an ambulance when encountering someone having a stroke, despite high awareness of stroke symptoms. Meanwhile, stroke incidence in Singapore has risen sharply: from nearly 6,000 cases in 2010 to about 9,700 cases in 2022. Dr Khoo, who is the chairman of the Alexandra Hospital Medical Board, also spearheaded a new patient-centric "integrated general hospital model", which he says was conceived in large part because of his rapport with his trainee doctors.
