Daily Cuts - Are Xi's and Putin's G20 absence a setback for Modi?

The G20 Summit begins this weekend (9 - 10 September) in New Delhi, India. US President Joe Biden has arrived early. But missing from the meetings are China's Xi Jinping and Russia's Vladimir Putin. The outcome of the summit could also be seen as a reflection of Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's international standing, and influence how he's perceived at home. Yogesh Joshi, Research Fellow, Institute of South Asian Studies, NUS, tells us if their absence is a setback for his ambitions.
