The 10th annual Pacific Island Leaders Meeting (PALM) begins today in Tokyo – it’s seen as Japan’s latest effort in deeper engagement to counter China. The three-day summit will also see discussions surrounding climate change, fisheries and developmental interests, as well as concerns about the release of treated wastewater from the disabled Fukushima nuclear plant.
