Daily Cuts - Malaysia's state elections: Which states to look out for?

6 Malaysian states will be heading to the polls very soon. The vote is on 12 Aug, but tomorrow, 29 July, candidates will file their nomination papers, before starting their campaigning. Observers say the state polls will be a test of support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's unity government. Selangor is the biggest state with more than 3.7 million residents. It’s expected to be most fiercely fought, with the outcome closely scrutinised. From the friendly blue bird…. To a scary big ‘X’, Elon Musk is planning to change the logo of Twitter. He has other plans for the social media platform, to include new offerings like: audio, video, messaging, banking. It’s almost like China’s WeChat. Spokesperson from Twitter says X would be the “future state of unlimited interactivity”. Daily Cuts - Love is in the air - More marriages in Singapore in 2022!

According to a report from the Statistics of Marriages and Divorce, 2022. The number of marriages registered last year rose to a record high of 29,389! The previous high was nearly 10 years ago, in 2014 (28,407). There also seems to be a trend towards later marriages! Divorce rates before the 10th marriage anniversary have also declined - especially among couples who got married after 2005. Paulin Straughan, Prof of Sociology (Practice) & Dean of Students at SMU, and Council Member at Families for Life, shares with Arnold & Nadirah her thoughts on the findings.

Daily Cuts - Public transport vouchers to help with rising costs

The government is helping lower to lower-middle income households cushion the impact of rising transportational costs. Almost half, about 300,000 public transportational vouchers, or PTVs, valued at $30 each, have already been given out. But more help is coming for those on social welfare schemes. Senior Minister of State for Transport, Dr Amy Khor explains how this new tranche of vouchers is different from the PTVs from December.
