After taking a break last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Star Awards returned in full force on Sunday evening (Apr 18) with its most ambitious show yet.

This year, the awards show took place at Jewel Changi Airport and Changi Airport Terminal 4, with stars walking the tarmac red carpet with a Singapore Airlines Airbus A350-900 as the backdrop.

Thanks to the lack of red carpet events in Singapore in the past year, high jewellery moments have been sorely missed on the small screen. Here at CNA Luxury, we were therefore excited to see that our favourite local celebrities brought out the big guns (well, big diamonds, to be exact) for the biggest night in Chinese entertainment.

Most intriguing and innovative of all was Joanne Peh, who wore an 81.85 carat Harry Winston Secret Cluster diamond necklace specially flown in from Hong Kong, draped down her back. According to her stylist Martin Wong, the necklace costs as much as an “Orchard Road studio apartment”.

Peh's husband, Best Actor winner Qi Yuwu, was also in Harry Winston. He wore the Ocean Biretrograde 42mm Automatic timepiece, which features a white gold case and 127 brilliant-cut diamonds set against an opalescent white mother-of-pearl dial.

As host for the night, Quan Yifong stole the show in a bold red gown paired with jewellery from Damiani. Quan also took home the award for Best Programme Host.

Best Actress winner Zoe Tay appeared to take style inspiration from Jennifer Lopez’s 2020 Golden Globes look, wearing a dress that sported a massive bow at the front. Zoe paired her look with a Bvlgari Serpenti white gold bangle and matching earrings that feature full pave diamonds and emeralds.

Meanwhile, Jesseca Liu was resplendent in over S$800,000 worth of Chopard jewellery, including a diamond necklace, ring and ear clips.

But who ever said that jewellery is reserved only for the ladies? Not to be outdone, the gentlemen brought their A-game too.

Ayden Sng rocked up in double Bvlgari with a Serpenti full pave diamond necklace, paired with the B.zero1 necklace.

Aside from jewellery, timepieces were also on full display at the awards ceremony. Best Actress nominee Rebecca Lim, who was clad in a backless gown by Alexander McQueen, wore a century-old Longines heritage watch dating back to the Roaring Twenties.

The elegant timepiece, which features a mix of diamonds and onyx set atop a platinum case, was specially flown in from the 189-year-old Longines museum located in Saint Imier, Switzerland.

Backstage at the event, Lim told CNA Luxury, “The watch is very special because it was flown in from the Longines museum in Switzerland for me tonight. There’s so much history behind the watch because it was made in 1920, so it’s a very valuable watch.”
