Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 3: Leong Mun Wai on funding relook for research, innovation and enterprise

In Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 2), NCMP Leong Mun Wai called for a relook of the Budget for research, innovation and enterprise. He said it is premature to increase research expenditure significantly when Singapore still lacks a sizeable domestic pool of research talent. On innovation and enterprise, he said that new ventures could not be effectively promoted using co-funding, because the limited number of public servants would not be able to assess the potential of thousands of venture ideas emerging at any one time.
