SINGAPORE: Teck Lee LRT station will open to enhance public transport connectivity in Punggol, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Tuesday (May 7), about 19 years after the station was built.

Along with bus route amendments, these enhancements to public transport will serve students at Singapore Institute of Technology's (SIT) new Punggol campus, as well as "other stakeholders", said LTA.

The authority did not disclose when the station would be opened, but said that more details will be announced when they are finalised.

However, there were indications that the station will likely open by the end of the year, in time to serve students who move into the new SIT campus.

A post on SIT's website last week indicated that the LRT station would be operational from August, along with the Punggol Coast MRT station on the North East Line by the end of 2024.

However, Reddit users noted that SIT then removed mention of Teck Lee LRT station on its website, prompting questions about whether the station would open.

In response to queries from CNA, an SIT spokesperson said: "The information on Teck Lee LRT station was removed as details have not been finalised."

However, the spokesperson added that SIT’s Punggol campus will be "served by both public bus and rail options when the academic year begins in September".

SIT will move to the Punggol campus in phases from the second half of 2024, the spokesperson added.

Teck Lee station has been standing since the Punggol LRT system was opened in 2005. It is the only station on the LRT line that has yet to open.
