12 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, all imported

SINGAPORE — Singapore reported 12 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday (Feb 20), all of which were imported.

All 12 cases had been placed on stay-home notices or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a press release, adding that there were no new locally transmitted cases.

Amongst the 12 new cases, 10 are asymptomatic, and were detected from the ministry’s proactive screening and surveillance, while two were symptomatic.

• Two Singaporeans, a 32-year-old woman and an 18-year-old woman, who returned from India and the United Kingdom respectively
• Two dependant’s pass holders who arrived from India
• Three student’s pass holders who arrived from India
• Two work pass holders who arrived from the United Arab Emirates and the United States
• A work permit holder who arrived from Indonesia and is a foreign domestic worker
• Two short-term visit pass holders. One had arived from India to visit her family member who is a Singaporean. Another arrived from India for studies in Singapore

MOH said that overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from eight cases in the week before to one case in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from five cases in the week before to one case in the past week.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” said MOH.

UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore now stands at 59,858.

In all, 59,719 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 22 on Saturday.

There are currently 20 confirmed cases who are still in hospital.

“Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit,” said MOH.

Another 90 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

To date, 29 people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
