12 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 6 imported cases and 2 in community
SINGAPORE — Singapore reported 12 new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday (Oct 4), of whom six are imported.
Ten of the new cases are asymptomatic, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
Among the six imported cases, two are Singapore permanent residents who returned from India on Sept 22 and 23.
Another three are work pass or work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who arrived from the Netherlands and the Philippines on Sept 22, and Indonesia on Oct 1.
The remaining case is a dependant’s pass holder who arrived from Japan on Sept 22.
All of them had been placed on 14-day stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, and were tested while serving their quarantine at dedicated facilities.
There are two cases in the community who are currently unlinked, MOH said.
One was detected after first presenting symptoms of acute respiratory infection to a doctor.
The other case was detected as a result of rostered routine testing of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors who are living outside the dormitories, even though he is asymptomatic.
There are four infections involving foreign workers residing in dormitories who were detected through surveillance testing.
MOH said that overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from an average of fewer than one case per day in the week before, to an average of two cases in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from an average of fewer than one case per day in the week before, to an average of one case in the past two weeks.
MOH said that 13 more Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the total who have fully recovered to 57,575.
There are currently 43 patients who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.
Another 167 with mild symptoms, or who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19, are isolated at community facilities. Twenty-seven have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
