125 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, including 21 in the community and 1 imported case
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (July 9) reported 125 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, bringing the total number of infections here to 45,422.
Of the new infections, one was an imported case involving a permanent resident who had returned to Singapore from India on June 23.
The 23-year-old woman was tested by the authorities while serving her 14-day stay-home notice, MOH said.
Among the 21 cases in the community, four are Singaporeans or permanent residents, three are work pass holders and the remaining 14 are work permit holders.
Ten of the community cases are linked to previous cases or clusters while 11 have no known links.
The other 103 cases on Thursday are foreign workers staying in dormitories.
Overall, MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has gone up from an average of nine cases a day in the week before to 16 a day in the past week.
It added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from an average of four cases a day in the week before to eight a day in the past week.
MONITORING OF CASES AT TAMPINES BLK 111
MOH said that it had previously placed 58 households residing at Blk 111 Tampines Street 11 under active phone surveillance and would be facilitating Covid-19 testing for them and their visitors.
It noted that this was a precautionary measure after it had detected nine confirmed cases from two households residing at the block.
“All infected individuals from these two households have been isolated earlier and are recovering in hospitals or community care facilities. In total, 123 residents and visitors have been tested so far, and all the results have come back negative for Covid-19,” MOH said.
It added: “Epidemiological investigations are ongoing, but thus far there is no evidence of spread beyond the two households. MOH will continue to closely monitor the situation.”
BANGLADESHI MAN DIED DUE TO CARDIORESPIRATORY FAILURE
Separately, MOH said that a 38-year-old male Bangladeshi national had died on Tuesday.
MOH said that the man had been taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital on June 28 after suffering a seizure, and subsequently developed intracranial haemorrhage.
“He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on June 28. The preliminary cause of death is cardiorespiratory failure, pending further investigations by the coroner,” MOH said.
UPDATE ON THE REST OF THE CASES
In all, MOH said that 41,645 people have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 322 on Thursday.
There are currently 197 patients who are still hospitalised. Of these, most are in stable condition or improving, and one person is in critical condition.
A total of 3,554 patients are currently isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-six people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
