15 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, including 1 in foreign worker dorm at Bedok South Road
SINGAPORE — A migrant worker who lives in a dormitory on Bedok South Road was the sole locally transmitted case of Covid-19 in Singapore on Wednesday (Feb 10). The remaining 14 cases are all imported, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
In its update of the coronavirus situation here, MOH said that the 22-year-old Bangladeshi did not have any symptoms and was detected after he tested for the virus last Sunday as part of the routine testing of workers.
The man’s pooled test result came back positive for Covid-19 on Monday and he was then immediately isolated.
An individual test for him was done on Tuesday, and the test results came back positive for Covid-19 that same day.
He was then taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
MOH said that the man’s previous results — the last being on Jan 24 — were negative for the virus.
“His serology test result has come back positive but we are unable to rule out that this could be a recent infection.
“As a precautionary measure, all his close contacts at the dormitory and his workplace have been placed on quarantine,” MOH said.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up from three in the week before to four in the past week. The number of cases with no known links in the community has also jumped slightly from two in the week before to four in the past week.
IMPORTED CASES
There were 14 imported cases of Covid-19 confirmed on Wednesday and all had been placed on stay-home notices upon their arrival here.
They are:
One Singaporean — a 10-year-old girl — and two permanent residents who returned from India, Malaysia and the United Kingdom
One dependant’s pass holder who arrived from the United States
Two work pass holders who came from Brazil and Russia
Six work permit holders who arrived from India, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines — four of whom are foreign domestic workers
Two short-term visit pass holders. One of them had arrived from Indonesia to visit her family members here, while the other had arrived from the United Arab Emirates for a work project

Another 156 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
