18 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore — lowest daily figure in 6 months
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 18 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (Sept 17) and it is the lowest number of daily new infections in six months, when 17 were reported on March 16.
Of these fresh infections, two are imported while one is a community case. The remaining 15 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its press release that all of the new cases have no symptoms.
The two imported cases are a 25-year-old work pass holder who arrived in Singapore from France on Sept 4, and the other is a 28-year-old dependant’s pass holder who came from India on Sept 5.
They were both placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.
The one case in the community is a 48-year-old work pass holder who has no known links to past infections or clusters.
The man was detected through the MOH’s Rostered Routine Testing of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors who are staying outside migrant worker dormitories.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of one a day in the past week.
The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has remained stable at an average of less than one a day in the past week.
Of the 15 new cases involving migrant workers in dormitories, 10 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.
The remaining five were detected through surveillance testing, such as the Rostered Routine Testing and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.
UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 57,532.
Of these, 57,039 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 84 on Thursday.
There are still 43 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 423 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
