188 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 12 imported cases and 1 in the community
There were 188 new cases in Singapore, the Ministry of Health said on Monday (Aug 10).
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 188 new cases of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health said on Monday (Aug 10).
Among the new cases is one new community case, a 60-year-old Singaporean man who had been identified as a contact of a previously confirmed case, and had been placed on quarantine earlier.
He was tested during quarantine to determine his status. He developed symptoms on Aug 9 and his infection was confirmed on the same day.
MOH said that overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two a day in the past two weeks. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of one a day in the past two weeks.
Among the new cases reported on Monday were 12 imported cases. Their ages range from three to 49 and include:
- One 18-year-old Singaporean man and three permanent residents aged 13 to 41 who returned here on July 29 from India, Bangladesh and the Philippines
- One work pass holder and four work permit holders, all of whom work in Singapore and arrived here from the Philippines on July 29
- Three dependant's pass holders who arrived from India on July 27 and 28
All of them had been placed on 14-day Stay-Home Notice (SHN) upon arrival in Singapore, and were serving their SHN at dedicated facilities. They had been tested while serving their SHN.
The majority of the new cases — 175 — are work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.
MOH reiterated that the multi-ministry task force handling Singapore’s response to the pandemic has completed the testing of all workers in the dormitories. There are currently about 23,300 workers who are still serving out their quarantine period.
MOH said: "These workers will be tested when their isolation ends, and we expect the case counts to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter."
Four dormitories that were previously clusters have been cleared, and now house only recovered individuals and those who have recently tested negative for Covid-19 infection. As such, the clusters have now been closed. They are:
- Avery Lodge Dormitory
- Cassia @ Penjuru
- CDPL Tuas Dormitory
- Tuas South Dormitory
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore now stands at 55,292.

In the past week, MOH said it has uncovered links for one previously unlinked case in the community.
UPDATE ON CONFIRMED CASES
MOH said 694 more cases of Covid-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 49,609 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are currently 112 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.
Another 5,544 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
So far, 27 have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
