20 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 1 in the community and 5 imported
There were 20 new cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday (Sept 26).
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 20 new cases of Covid-19, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Saturday (Sept 26).
There is one new community case, who is a work permit holder and is unlinked to existing cases.
The case was detected as a result of the Government’s rostered routine testing of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors who are living outside the dormitories.
He was asymptomatic. Epidemiological investigations of the case are in progress.
In the meantime, all his identified close contacts have been isolated and placed on quarantine, and will be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period so that MOH can detect asymptomatic cases.
MOH will also conduct serological tests for his household contacts to determine if he could have been infected by them.
There are five imported cases, who had all been placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.
Of these, four are work pass or work permit holders currently employed in Singapore who arrived from India and Indonesia on Sept 14, and Brazil and the Philippines on Sept 13.
The remaining imported case is a dependant’s pass holder who arrived from India on Sept 15.
Amongst the 14 cases residing in dormitories, seven had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases, and had already been quarantined to prevent further transmission. They were tested during quarantine to determine their status.
The remaining seven cases were detected through surveillance testing, such as the bi-weekly rostered routine testing of workers living in dormitories.
MOH noted that overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of fewer than one case a day in the past two weeks.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of fewer than one case per day in the past two weeks.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore now stands at 57,685.
UPDATE ON CONDITION OF CONFIRMED CASES
MOH said 19 more cases of Covid-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.
In all, 57,359 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.
There are currently 25 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit.
Another 274 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 27 have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
