22-year-old man arrested for stealing cashcards

SINGAPORE — A 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday (Oct 14) for allegedly stealing cashcards from vehicles on a number of occasions.
Police said they first received a report from a member of public stating that his cashcard left on his unattended motorcycle was discovered missing near Blk 986, Jurong West St 93. After officers from Jurong division carried out extensive investigations, they managed to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Upper Jurong Rd.
The suspect will be charged tomorrow for the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he will face an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, a fine, or both.
Police also sent out an advisory to vehicle owners to prevent theft from vehicles.
- Install an anti-theft alarm system;
- Do not leave cash and valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle;
- Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while;
- Park your vehicle in well-lit areas;
- Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
