22-year-old man to be charged with allegedly cheating Lazada of more than S$86,000

SINGAPORE — A 22-year-old man will be charged in court on Friday (June 19) with allegedly cheating the online shopping platform Lazada of more than S$86,000.

In a statement on Thursday, the police said that they received a report of suspected fraudulent activities on Lazada on Tuesday.

Officers from the Commercial Affairs Department established the identity of the man and arrested him on Thursday.

Preliminary investigations by the authorities showed that the Singaporean man, who is an online seller, had posed as a buyer and defrauded Lazada of more than S$86,000.

The police seized laptops, a mobile phone and two credit cards.

The man will be charged in court on Friday with cheating. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The police said that they take a serious view of anyone who may be involved in fraudulent activities.

“Perpetrators will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” they said.
