25 new imported Covid-19 cases in Singapore, 16 are foreign domestic workers

SINGAPORE — Singapore reported 25 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday (Jan 27), all of them imported. There were no cases in the wider community for the fifth day in a row.

All of the imported cases had been placed on stay-home notices upon their arrival here, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said, adding that more than half — or 16 cases — are foreign domestic workers.

Twenty-two of the infected people had no symptoms.

  Four permanent residents who returned from India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

• One dependant’s pass holder who came from India

• Two work pass holders who arrived from India and the UAE

• Eighteen work permit holders who arrived from India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines — 16 of whom are foreign domestic workers

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from 18 in the week before to five in the past week.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has also gone down from six in the week before to one in the past week.

UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 59,391.

Of these, 59,104 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 18 on Wednesday.

There are still 38 patients in hospitals. “Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit,” MOH said.

Another 220 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to the disease.
