27 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 2 imported cases and 2 in the community
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 27 new cases of Covid-19, including two that are imported and two that are in the community. The remaining 23 are linked to migrant workers staying in dormitories.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Wednesday (Sept 16) that all of the fresh cases are asymptomatic.
The two imported cases are a two-year-old boy who is a long-term visit pass holder and a 50-year-old Singaporean woman.
They both arrived from India on Sept 3 and Sept 12 respectively and were placed on a 14-day stay-home notice. They tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.
MOH also said that it has removed one imported infection from its case count following further investigations.
The case — identified as Case 57,107 — is a 59-year-old Singaporean man who returned from Australia on Aug 25.
The man has since tested negative twice after an initial positive test result.
“Investigations by laboratory experts and an expert panel assessed that his first test result was a false-positive one,” MOH said.
“All necessary public health actions had been taken earlier and neither the case nor his contacts had been exposed to risk of infection due to the initial classification.”
Two work permit holders make up the cases in the community on Wednesday.
One was linked to a past case while the other has no known links to past cases or clusters.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of one a day in the past week.
The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also gone down from an average of one case a day in the week before to an average of less than one a day in the past week.
Of the 23 new cases involving migrant workers in dormitories, 17 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.
The remaining six were detected through surveillance testing, such as the Rostered Routine Testing and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.
UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 57,514.
Of these, 56,955 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 71 on Wednesday.
There are still 42 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 490 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
