31 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 9 imported cases; no new cases in the community
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 31 new cases of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a press release on Monday (Sept 21).
There are nine imported cases who had all been placed on stay-home notices upon arrival here.
No new cases in the community were reported.
One case has been removed from Singapore’s case count after further investigations, MOH said. Case 57,679, whose first Covid-19 test was borderline positive, was retested twice and the results came back as negative.
MOH said that investigations by laboratory experts and an assessment by an expert panel found that his first test result was a false positive.
All his household contacts had been swabbed and their test results have also come back negative.
Out of the nine imported cases reported on Monday, one is a Singapore permanent resident who arrived from India on Sept 9.
Four are work pass or work permit holders and two are dependant’s pass holders — they all arrived from India on Sept 9 and Iran on Sept 15.
The remaining two are student’s pass holders who arrived from India on Sept 9.
All nine have been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice upon arrival and were tested while serving their stay-home notices at dedicated facilities.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of one case a day in the last two weeks.
The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has remained stable at an average of fewer than one a day in the past two weeks.
Of the 22 cases involving migrant workers in dormitories, 16 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.
The remaining six were detected through surveillance testing, such as the Rostered Routine Testing and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.
UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 57,606.
Of these, 57,241 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 60 on Monday.
There are still 36 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 302 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
