35 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, all imported; highest daily number of such cases since March 28
SINGAPORE — Singapore on Sunday (Jan 3) recorded 35 new cases of Covid-19, all of which were imported.
It was the highest number of imported cases since March 28, when there were 42 imported cases.
It was also the fourth day in a row that the number of infections was in the 30s.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said the 35 cases had already been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
Among the imported cases:
One is a Singaporean and five are permanent residents who returned from the United Kingdom, India and Indonesia
Ten are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from India and the United Arab Emirates
One is a long-term visit pass holder who came from India
Four are work pass holders who arrived from Russia, India, Japan and Maldives
Twelve are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and Malaysia, of whom seven are foreign domestic workers
Two are short-term visit pass holders. One came from India to visit his Singaporean child. The other is a cargo pilot who arrived from the United States via Australia
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from one in the week before to 10 in the past week, MOH said.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from one in the week before to four in the past week.
The number of coronavirus cases in Singapore stands at 58,697.
In all, 58,487 have fully recovered, including the 11 discharged on Sunday.
There are currently 64 people who are still in hospital. Most of them are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 117 with mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19, are isolated at community facilities.
Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
