42 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, all imported; highest number of such cases since March 23

SINGAPORE — Singapore reported 42 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Jan 10), all of which were imported.

This is the highest number of imported cases reported in one day since March 23, when there were 48 infections.

The 42 imported cases had already been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health said. All but two of them had no symptoms.

  Two are Singaporeans and two are permanent residents who returned from Malaysia and India

• Six are dependant’s pass holders who arrived from Austria, India, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates

• Four are work pass holders who came from India and the Philippines

• Twenty-four are work permit holders who arrived from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, of whom five are foreign domestic workers

• One is a long-term visit pass holder who came from India

• One is a short-term visit pass holder who arrived from India to visit his parent who is a permanent resident

• Two are special pass holders who are sea crew. They arrived onboard separate vessels from Myanmar and Indonesia, and had not disembarked. They were tested onboard and were conveyed to the hospital when their Covid-19 tests came back positive

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 10 cases in the week before to eight in the past week, the health ministry said.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from four cases in the week before to five in the past week.

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 58,907.

Of these, 58,636 have fully recovered from the infection, including the 25 discharged on Sunday.

There are currently 60 patients who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Another 182 people with mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19, are isolated at community facilities.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
