42 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 10 imported cases and 4 in the community
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 42 new cases of Covid-19, including 10 that are imported and four in the community, with the remaining 28 cases residing in dormitories, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday (Sept 12).
Among the fresh cases, 41 are asymptomatic, the ministry added.
The 10 new imported cases comprise two Singaporeans, five permanent residents, two work pass holders and one short-term visit pass holder.
The two Singaporeans and five permanent residents returned to Singapore from India on Aug 30 and Aug 31. The work pass holders are currently employed in Singapore and arrived from Germany on Aug 30 and the Philippines on Aug 29. The remaining case, the short-term visit pass holder, is the spouse of a Singaporean who arrived from India on Sept 5.
All of them had been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.
Of the four community cases, three were picked up as a result of proactive surveillance and screening, and one had already been placed on quarantine earlier. All four cases are asymptomatic, added MOH.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from an average of three cases a day in the week before to an average of two a day in the past week.
The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also gone down from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of one a day in the past week.
Among the 28 cases in dormitories, 16 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases, and had already been quarantined. They were tested during quarantine to determine their status. The remaining 12 cases were detected through surveillance testing, said MOH.
UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 57,357.
Of these, 56,699 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 92 on Saturday.
There are still 54 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 577 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
