44-year-old Singapore PR dies of Covid-19 complications, brings death toll to 35
SINGAPORE — A 44-year-old Singapore permanent resident died on Sunday (June 20) from complications due to Covid-19. There are now 35 people here who have died after contracting the coronavirus.
In a media statement on Monday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the man was admitted to Alexandra Hospital on May 25 and confirmed to have Covid-19 the next day.
The man — who was not vaccinated — had a history of diabetes mellitus.
He was classified by MOH as being part of the Covid-19 cluster at industrial equipment supplier Tektronix. The cluster’s first case was a 50-year-old Singaporean man who works as an engineer there.
MOH said that Alexandra Hospital has reached out to the 44-year-old man’s family and is extending assistance to them.
The man is one of Singapore’s youngest Covid-19 fatalities. In June last year, a 41-year-old migrant worker here from China died from complications due to Covid-19 more than two weeks after recovering from the disease.
On Monday, Singapore reported 16 new cases of Covid-19.
The total number of cases here now stands at 62,430.
