465 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, tally stands at 27,356
The vast majority of the new cases are work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 465 new cases of Covid-19, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a press release on Saturday (May 16).
This brings the total number of cases here to 27,356.
The MOH said that the lower number of cases on Saturday is partly due to fewer tests being processed as one testing laboratory is reviewing its processes following an earlier apparatus calibration issue and will need time to ramp up its testing capacity.
In comparison, there were over 700 new cases reported on Thursday and Friday.
Of the 465 new infections, the majority - 457 - were work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.
There were three new cases of work permit holders outside the dormitories infected with Covid-19, while five were cases from the wider community.
Among the cases form the wider community, four are Singaporeans/permanent residents and one is a work pass holder.
The MOH said that most of the community cases today were linked with two cases working at migrant worker dormitories while the other two are household contacts of one of the cases.
MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of nine cases a day in the week before, to an average of three a day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of three cases per day in the week before, to an average of one per day in the past week.
There were no imported cases on Saturday.
Of the new cases, 99 per cent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing, said MOH.
In the past week, MOH has uncovered links for 41 previously unlinked cases.
NEW CLUSTERS
Three new clusters of infections were also identified. They are at 9 Sungei Kadut Way, 7 Tech Park Crescent and 137 Tuas View Square.
The ministry said that it continues to pick up many more cases amongst work permit holders residing in dormitories, including in factory-converted dormitories, because of extensive testing in these premises, as part of our process to verify and test the status of all workers.

UPDATE ON OTHER CASES
A total of 1,094 patients were discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, raising the total number of those who have fully recovered to 8,342.
A 67-year-old Singaporean man however died from Covid-19 on May 15, bringing Singapore’s fatality toll to 22.
