49 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore; 3 new clusters in dormitories
There are three new community cases based on the Ministry of Health's investigations so far. Of them, one is Singaporean and two are work pass holders.
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 49 new cases of Covid-19, including three that are imported and three that are in the community. The remaining 43 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.
In a press release on Wednesday (Sept 2), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the three imported cases comprise one work pass holder and two work permit holders.
They had arrived in Singapore from India, the Philippines and Indonesia between Aug 21 and Aug 26.
Two of them had been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.
The other — a 41-year-old seaman from Indonesia — had been tested upon his arrival in the country.
The three cases in the community comprise a 29-year-old Singaporean woman and two migrant workers aged 21 and 34.
All three cases have no known links to past cases or clusters and investigations are ongoing for the community cases.
“In the meantime, all the identified close contacts of the cases have been isolated and placed on quarantine, and will be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period so that we can detect asymptomatic cases.
“We will also conduct serological tests for their household contacts to determine if they could have been infected by them,” MOH said.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up, from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of three in the past two weeks.
The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has remained stable at an average of one a day in the past 14 days.
Of the 43 new cases involving migrant workers staying in dormitories, 14 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.
The remaining 29 were detected through surveillance testing, such as the Rostered Routine Testing and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.
Separately, MOH also identified the formation of three new clusters of infections at the dormitories.
They are:
Changi Lodge II located at 80 Tanah Merah Coast Road
North Coast Lodge located at 51 North Coast Avenue
Toh Guan Dormitory located at 19A Toh Guan Road East
UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 56,860, after MOH said that “41 cases have been removed from the count of total confirmed cases as they were verified to be negative for Covid-19 following further investigations”.
Of these, 55,891 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 142 on Wednesday.
There are still 75 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 867 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
