51 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore; all 322 visitors to HomeTeamNS Khatib KTV outlet tested negative
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that it has completed the screening and testing of 322 people linked to the recently reported case of infected persons who had visited the Jewel Music Box KTV lounge at HomeTeamNS Khatib clubhouse, and all the results have come back negative.
Last week, MOH had contacted 321 people and processed 193 tests which turned out negative.
“This is a precautionary measure following the detection of three cases who had visited the KTV during the affected dates (on Aug 1 and 2), even though the risk of infection for visitors is assessed to be low,” it said in a press release on Monday (Aug 24).
It reiterated that the KTV was not operational during the visits and there were no singing activities held.
Singapore has 51 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Monday, including seven that are imported and one that is in the community. The remaining 43 are migrant workers staying in dormitories.
MOH said that the seven imported cases include three children aged between two and three years old.
All seven had returned from India, the Netherlands and Indonesia between Aug 9 and 12, MOH said. They are one permanent resident, two work permit holders, three dependant’s pass holders and one long-term visit pass holder.
They had all been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving their notices at dedicated facilities.
The one case in the community is a 65-year-old Singaporean woman who is linked to a previous case.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks, MOH said.
The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also remained stable at an average of one case a day in the past 14 days.
However, there was one new cluster of infections identified at the Tuas View Dormitory located at 70 Tuas South Avenue 1.
Of the 43 new cases involving migrant workers staying in the dormitories, 26 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.
The remaining 17 infections were detected through surveillance testing, such as the fortnightly Rostered Routine Testing of workers living in dormitories and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.
MOH said that besides the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, it has also conducted serological tests to determine if some of these cases in the dormitories are current or past infections.
“The serological test results for 11 cases have come back positive so far, which indicate likely past infections,” MOH said.
UPDATES ON THE REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 56,404.
Of these, 54,587 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 423 on Monday.
There are still 84 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 1,706 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
