SINGAPORE — A 63-year-old Singaporean man died on Thursday (Aug 5) from complications due to Covid-19.

In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the man was confirmed to have Covid-19 after his death.

He had developed a fever and cough on Tuesday and was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital on Thursday after he collapsed at home.

“He had not been vaccinated against Covid-19 and had a history of heart disease, stroke, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia,” MOH said.

Hyperlipidaemia is a condition where a person has high levels of lipids such as cholesterol or triglycerides in the blood. It is one of the main risk factors for coronary heart disease and stroke.

This is the fourth fatality from Covid-19 complications in five days, following the death of a 34-year-old Ukrainian man last Sunday, a 58-year-old Singaporean woman on Monday and a 79-year-old man on Wednesday.

There are now 41 people here who have died after contracting the coronavirus.

On Friday, Singapore recorded 97 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total tally to 65,605 since the outbreak began last year.
