7 new Covid-19 cases — second time in 3 days daily cases rose by single digit
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed seven new cases of Covid-19, including one that is imported and one other that is in the community. The remaining five are linked to migrant workers staying in dormitories.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Monday (Oct 5) that a majority of the fresh cases have no symptoms.
The one case in the community is a 15-year-old girl who is linked to a previous infection and had been placed on quarantine earlier.
The Indian national — a student at a private school — was last in school on Oct 2 before the onset of symptoms.
Overall, MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has gone up from an average of fewer than one case a day in the week before to an average of one case a day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has, however, remained stable at an average of fewer than one case a day in the past two weeks.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
There were five new cases involving migrant workers in dormitories, all of whom had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.
They were all tested during quarantine to determine their status.
The one imported case is a 50-year-old permanent resident from India who is asymptomatic.
MOH said that the man was placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving his notice at dedicated facilities.
UPDATES ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 57,819.
Of these, 57,597 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 22 on Monday.
There are still 42 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 153 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
