8 imported Covid-19 cases in Singapore, including 4 foreign domestic workers

SINGAPORE — Singapore on Tuesday (March 2) reported eight new imported cases of Covid-19, four of whom are foreign domestic workers. There are no cases in the wider community.

In its update on the coronavirus situation here, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that all of the cases had been placed on stay-home notices upon their arrival here and were tested while serving quarantine.

They are:

  One work pass holder who came from India

• Five work permit holders, who arrived from Indonesia and the Philippines — four of whom are foreign domestic workers

• One short-term visit pass holder who came from Indonesia to visit her Singaporean relatives

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up from two in the week before to three in the past week, said MOH.

The number of cases with no known links in the community has also gone up from one in the week before to two in the past week.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” said MOH.

UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES

The total number of infections in Singapore is now 59,956.

Of these, 59,842 people have fully recovered and been discharged, including 12 on Tuesday.

There are still 19 patients in hospitals.

“Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit,” said MOH.

Another 66 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-nine people have died from complications due to the disease.
