897 new Covid-19 cases in S’pore, bringing tally to 12,075: MOH
There are 12,075 Covid-19 cases in Singapore as of April 24, 2020.
SINGAPORE — Singapore on Friday (April 24) confirmed 897 new cases of Covid-19, the first time in five days that the number of new daily infections dropped below 1,000.
This brings the total number of cases here to 12,075.
Nine new clusters of infections have emerged: Alaunia Lodge along Admiralty Road West, SSKBJV Dormitory (31A Tanah Merah Coast Road), Westlite Juniper (23 Mandai Estate), Natureland East Coast (907 East Coast Road), Strand Hotel (25 Bencoolen Street), 112 Neythal Road, 10 Shaw Road, 2 Sungei Kadut Avenue and 11 Tuas Avenue 10.
A total of 853 confirmed cases on Friday are foreign workers residing in the dormitories, while 19 are work permit holders residing outside dormitories.
Of the 25 cases in the community, 13 are Singaporeans or permanent residents while 12 are work pass holders.
There are no imported cases, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.
“The number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 31 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 25 per day in the past week,” said the ministry.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 20 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 17 per day in the past week, it added.
“The number of new cases amongst work permit holders residing outside dormitories has continued to increase, from an average of 19 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 28 per day in the past week,” MOH said.
“The main increase today continues to be for work permit holders residing in dormitories, where we are picking up many more cases because of extensive testing. Most of these cases have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of our hospitals.”
None of them is in the intensive care unit.
UPDATE ON THE CONFIRMED CASES
In all, MOH said that 956 patients have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including the 38 discharged on Friday.
There are currently 1,229 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are in stable condition or improving.
Twenty-four patients are in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH said that 9,878 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
To date, 12 patients have died from complications due to Covid-19 infections.
On Thursday, a foreign worker — who was known as Case 8190 — was found motionless at a staircase landing of Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
MOH said the deceased tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday and had been warded at the hospital.
On Friday, MOH clarified that the cause of his death was “multiple injuries consistent with those resulting from a fall from height”, and not due to complications from Covid-19 infection.
