SINGAPORE – 94 drug offenders were arrested by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) after a three-day drug bust, which saw about 60g of “Ice”, 25g of heroin, 310g of cannabis and six “Ecstasy” tablets being seized.
According to the bureau, the islandwide operation lasted from Aug 28 to 31, with raids conducted by the CNB and Singapore Police officers at Boon Lay, Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong, Marsiling, Sengkang, Tampines and Woodlands.
During one raid in Jalan Kayu, the officers arrested a 37-year-old Singaporean suspected of being drug trafficker. Officers found about 38g of “Ice” and six “Ecstasy” tablets at the unit he was staying in, along with digital weighing scales, empty plastic packaging and improvised drug-smoking apparatus.
Three suspected drug abusers — a 28-year-old and two 34-year-old female Singaporeans — were also arrested there.
In another raid in Seletar West, CNB officers arrested a 43-year-old suspected drug trafficker as well as two suspected drug abusers, aged 43 and 47, both of whom had a small packet of cannabis each.
In the follow-up raid at the drug trafficker’s residence in Yishun Street 81, officers recovered about 298g of cannabis.
Investigations into the drug activities of all the arrested persons are ongoing.
The CNB and the police also reminded the public that under the Misuse of Drugs Act, anyone caught trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin can be sentenced to death.
The death penalty also applies if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g.
