SINGAPORE — Action will be taken against a man who had written offensive posts on social media under the name of “Sharon Liew”, Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said on Saturday (May 2).

In a Facebook post, Mr Shanmugam said that police investigations found that the person behind the account @sharonliew86 was a non-Chinese man.

Several weeks ago he had written posts on social media insulting Indians, using racial slurs and blaming the Indian community for Covid-19.

“Police have investigated, found the person - a man, not a female named Sharon Liew, and the man is not Chinese,” Mr Shanmugam wrote. “Done deliberately to stoke anger, unhappiness, racial tensions.”

He added: “Action will be taken.”
