SINGAPORE — Improved air quality is expected to continue tomorrow (Nov 4) said the National Environment Agency (NEA), with thundery showers expected in the afternoon.

In its evening update, NEA said that air quality over the next 24 hours is expected to be in the moderate range as prevailing winds are forecast to be weak and variable in direction.

As at 6pm, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was 53-62, while the three-hour PSI stood at 61. The one-hour PM2.5 was 7-37 µg/m3.

Singapore has been experiencing moderate air quality since last Wednesday, a welcome reprieve since choking smog blew in in September, disrupting Singaporeans’ daily activities. Today, the island saw fair weather over most areas and experienced showers over a few areas in the afternoon.

Yesterday, NEA said the Republic will see short, thundery showers on several days in the next two weeks, as inter-monsoon conditions continue in Singapore.

There were two hotspots detected in Sumatra today, compared to six yesterday. However, the low hotspot count on both days was due to partial satellite pass and cloud cover over parts of Sumatra, said NEA.

Given the air quality forecast for the next 24 hours, NEA advised that everyone can continue with normal activities. Persons who are not feeling well, especially the elderly and children, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, should seek medical attention.
