SINGAPORE — AXA Insurance Singapore today (Sept 2) announced a personal accident plan that on top of financial coverage, will also provide child guardian and housekeeping and meal services to help minimise disruption to daily life during the various stages of recovery.
Coined AXA SmartFamily, the plan provides eight complimentary post-accident services. To be eligible for the services, a minimum hospitalisation of at least 72 hours and a significant loss of a physical bodily function must be formally certified by the doctor.
The services provided include: arranging and paying to fetch your children to and from school; arranging and paying for a nurse to tend to follow up or therapy treatments at home; making appointments and payment for therapy or rehabilitation services; arranging and paying for a doctor’s home visit; arranging and paying for home modifications to accommodate the disability; arranging and paying for transportation to a clinic or hospital for follow up treatments; arranging and paying for housekeeping and meal services; and making appointments and payments on a customers’ behalf for psychological consultations.
There is no fixed cap on the number of times a service can be rendered, but eligibility will be subject to the selected plan coverage and certification by the doctor. For example, if a customer were to purchase a S$1 million plan, he will be able to utilise the eight services in any proportion with a doctor’s certification, depending on the stages of recovery, till the total amount reaches the S$1 million coverage.
There are three coverage plans: S$250,000, S$500,000 and S$1 million.
Annual premiums are at S$386.27 for adults and S$251.45 for children for a S$250,000 annual coverage; S$501.83 for adults and S$326.35 for children for a S$500,000 annual coverage; and S$732.95 for adults and S$476.15 for children for a S$1 million annual coverage. AXA did not state if the prices would be revised in future.
Mr Johann Simon, chief technical officer of AXA Insurance Singapore said: “We realise customers are at a loss when a serious accident happens. Issues such as what to do, where to go, who to look for, how to travel to and fro from medical appointments are their common worries. We wanted to develop an innovative yet highly relevant Personal Accident plan that addresses these worries, on top of providing the financial coverage.”
Studies show that individuals face psychological traumas after an accident, and with the plan’s services, one can seek treatment to ease the pains and progress on a road to recovery.
“Studies have shown that at least one-third of all people involved in non-fatal accidents have post-traumatic stress disorder, persistent anxiety, depression, and phobias even one year after the incident. Like adults, young children often suffer anxiety and phobias after an accident as well,” said Dr Tan Hwee Sim, from Raffles Counselling Centre, Raffles Hospital, a partner hospital under AXA SmartFamily.
“The most important factor in recovering from the psychiatric complications of the accident is recognising that you are having a problem and getting help. Psychiatric services are able to provide assessment, counselling, and treatment (both psychological and medication) for those affected,” said Dr Tan.
