SINGAPORE: A fire broke out in a Bedok North flat on Thursday (Jun 6) night, resulting in the evacuation of about 100 residents.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post on Friday that it was alerted to the incident at Block 541 Bedok North Street 3 at about 10.10pm.

Firefighters arrived to find a seventh-floor unit ablaze, and they had to force their way into the "smoke-logged" flat to fight the fire.

The fire, which involved the contents of a bedroom, was extinguished with a water jet.

SCDF said that no one was in the unit when the fire broke out. There were no reported injuries.

"As a result of the fire, the entire bedroom was damaged and the rest of the affected unit sustained heat and soot damage," said SCDF.

About 100 residents from the affected block were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
