Bukit Gombak Stadium, Bukit Batok Industrial Park A to be assembly centres for counting night

03 May 2016 04:15AM

Two areas — the field along Bukit Batok Industrial Park A and Bukit Gombak Stadium — have been named the assembly centres for counting night on Saturday for the Bukit Batok by-election, the police announced yesterday.

Both areas are also the rally sites for the by-election.

From the time polls close at 8pm on Polling Day until 30 minutes after the by-election result, the candidates, their supporters and members of the public may gather at these designated assembly centres to await the announcement of the result.

Permit applications for the assembly centres must be made in person by a candidate or his election agent at the Police Elections Permits Office between 8.30am and 2.30pm on Thursday or Friday.

No fees will be levied for the permit, and application forms can be obtained from the Police Elections Permits Office or downloaded from the police website.

Contesting parties can apply only for one site. In the event that there is more than one applicant for a particular site, a ballot will be conducted. The allocation of assembly sites will be announced on Friday, after applications are closed.

The parties can also apply for a permit to use an indoor site as an assembly centre, added the police.

Candidates and/or their election agents are invited to attend a closed-door briefing on the application procedures for assembly centres at 9am tomorrow at the Police Cantonment Complex.
