SINGAPORE ― Changi Airport handled 5.3 million passengers in January alone, making it a 0.9 per cent year-on-year increase.
According to an announcement by Changi Airport group (CAG) on Monday (Feb 26), aircraft movements rose by 2.8 per cent with 32,490 landings and takeoffs, while flight cargo increased by 10.7 per cent to reach 175,590 tonnes.
As compared to a year ago, passenger traffic for the month “remain stable” as it saw travels boosted by the Chinese New Year in January, CAG said.
The data from CAG showed that the boost can be attributed to growth in markets such as Japan (11 per cent rise), India (9 per cent) and Thailand (9 per cent). Meanwhile, major city routes that recorded strong traffic growth of at least eight per cent included Chennai, London and Bangkok.
As of Feb 1, more than 100 airlines operate at Changi Airport and connects Singapore to some 400 cities in about 100 countries and territories.
With more than 7,200 weekly scheduled flights, an aircraft takes off or lands at Changi roughly once every 80 seconds, said the CAG.
