SINGAPORE — The owner of the CK building in Tampines has been ordered by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to close the entire building, a day after a blaze engulfed the top three floors of the six-storey building.
Inspections showed that the fire had affected the structural integrity of the fourth to sixth storeys and the building’s steel roof, said the BCA on Thursday. It had gained access into the building after the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) completed the damping-down operation on Thursday morning.
A professional engineer, engaged by the owners of the building, “verified that the fourth to sixth storey structures are structurally damaged but in a stable condition", said the BCA in a statement, noting there was “no immediate danger of the damaged structure collapsing".
The engineer has recommended the reconstruction of these affected structures. Propping works will be done in the interim before reconstruction work commences.
Wednesday’s fire spanned the afternoon, raging for at least four-and-a-half hours before being brought under control.
