SINGAPORE: CNA has launched a new feature for online readers called FAST. This is aimed at helping time-pressed readers stay informed more easily. The feature is available on the CNA app and website as of Thursday (Mar 21).

The FAST experience offers quick summaries of stories that readers can swipe through, similar to how you would use TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Stories.

You can activate CNA's FAST via the FAST button at the bottom right of the CNA homepage and the app, as well as directly from articles with the FAST option. From each FAST card, you can click through to read the full story and be better informed, share the card or swipe on to the next one.

WITH THE SUPPORT OF GEN AI

Our reporters and editors create these quick, informative summaries you see in FAST cards, with the support of generative AI (artificial intelligence). Any summary is checked by an editor before it is published online.

FAST is one of several new initiatives announced as CNA celebrates its 25th anniversary. We earlier introduced AI-generated audio in articles for readers who prefer to listen to stories.

"As we mark 25 years of service, we are working on new initiatives to grow our existing base, meet new needs, and reach new audiences," said Mediacorp Chairman Niam Chiang Meng at a gala dinner on Tuesday to celebrate the anniversary. "The integration of AI holds exciting promise in enhancing efficiency and building new capabilities in the newsroom."

CNA CATCH UP

Other features have also been launched for time-pressed readers: On the app, we we have the "Catch Up" function. Tapping on the bell when you start up the app will bring you to a list of notifications you might have missed over the past 30 days, so you are on top of the breaking news and stories we want to highlight.

FAST and Catch Up are among the many features we are working on for our readers. And stay tuned: The FAST experience will continue to be updated based on reader feedback and will include more content types in future.
