CNB drug raids: 5 people arrested over S$230,000 worth of heroin, cannabis and ‘ice’

In total, about 550g of methamphetamine (or “ice”), 291g of heroin and about 2kg of cannabis were seized by the authorities from the operations in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 5, Ang Mo Kio Ave 10 and Bukit Panjang Ring Road.

SINGAPORE — Five suspected drug offenders were arrested in a series of raids on Thursday (Aug 27), the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said.

In a press release on Friday, CNB said that the four men and one woman — aged between 26 and 50 — were arrested in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio and Bukit Panjang estates.

All five are Singaporeans.

The drugs seized during the operations are estimated to be worth close to S$230,000, CNB said.

In total, about 550g of methamphetamine (or “ice”), 291g of heroin and about 2kg of cannabis were seized by the authorities.

CNB said that the 550g of methamphetamine seized is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 314 abusers for a week, while the 2kg of cannabis is enough to feed the addiction of about 287 abusers for a week.

WHAT HAD TRANSPIRED

CNB officers had first intercepted a car in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 5 late on Thursday evening, where they arrested two men — aged 30 and 50 — in the vehicle.

A bundle containing about 537g of methamphetamine and a torn cigarette box containing about 13g of the same drug were seized from the vehicle.

The 30-year-old man was then taken to his place of residence in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Ave 10.

CNB then arrested a 26-year-old woman who was in the house.

“A search was conducted and three bags containing about 291g of heroin and a bundle containing about 1kg of cannabis were recovered from the unit,” the statement said.

In a follow-up operation, CNB arrested a 47-year-old man in the vicinity of Bukit Panjang Ring Road.

Two packets containing about 10g of cannabis were found in his possession.

CNB officers also raided a residential unit in the same block and arrested a 42-year-old man.

“Prior to the arrest, the 42-year-old was believed to have discarded a package out of the unit’s window. Officers later recovered the package which contained about 965g of cannabis,” CNB said.

Investigations into these drug activities are under way.
