Covid-19: 2 clusters closed; dorm resident among 2 new unlinked cases in Singapore
SINGAPORE — Two more Covid-19 clusters were closed on Tuesday (July 6), the Ministry of Health (MOH) said, as the number of active clusters here fell to 22.
In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation here, MOH said that the clusters linked to Atatcutz Singapore — a barber shop in Simpang Bedok — as well as to a 61-year-old Singaporean woman who works at NTUC FairPrice supermarket along Clementi Avenue 3 were closed because no more infections had been linked to them in the past 28 days.
As of Tuesday, there are 22 active clusters, with the number of cases in each ranging from three to 93.
Of the two new locally transmitted cases reported on Tuesday, one is a resident of a migrant worker dormitory. MOH said that both cases have no known links to past infections.
Eight of the 10 new cases reported on Tuesday were imported. Of the eight, seven were detected upon arrival in Singapore and one fell ill during isolation or while serving a stay-home notice.
The total number of coronavirus infections in Singapore is now 62,640.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from 76 in the week before to 24 in the past week.
The number of cases with no known links in the community has also dropped from 11 in the week before to five in the past week.
“The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 2.7 and 0.7 respectively,” MOH said.
HOSPITALISED PATIENTS
There are now 99 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised.
Of these, eight require supplemental oxygen while another three are in critical condition under intensive care. All three under intensive care are aged above 60 and not vaccinated.
Among the eight who need oxygen aid, three were partially vaccinated. Five of the eight are aged over 60, two are between the ages of 40 and 60 and one is aged between 19 and 39.
“There is continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected," MOH said.
“Over the last 28 days, 23 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to intensive care units or died. Twenty are unvaccinated, three are partially vaccinated and none was fully vaccinated.”
VACCINATIONS
Some 5.86 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been given to about 3.67 million people as of Monday, the ministry said.
Close to 2.2 million people have received their second dose and completed the full vaccination regimen.
