SINGAPORE — There were 347 local cases of Covid-19 confirmed on Wednesday (Sept 8), 84 of whom are seniors over the age of 60.

Including two imported cases, there were a total of 349 new infections, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement.

This is the highest number of daily cases since Aug 5 last year, when 908 were recorded.

MOH said that the two imported cases had been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon their arrival here. One was detected on arrival and the other developed the illness during isolation.

On Wednesday, MOH revised its daily update on the coronavirus situation in Singapore, no longer providing information on the number of linked and unlinked cases.

Singapore has recorded a total of 69,582 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic.

SERIOUSLY ILL

There are 664 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised as of Wednesday, up from 643 the day before.

Data from MOH showed that the number of patients who are in serious condition and need oxygen support to help them breathe has dipped to 23, down from 24 the day before.

There are also six patients who are in intensive care units, similar to the day before.

Of those who have fallen very ill, 23 are seniors aged above 60.

Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or had died is 6.1 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 0.7 per cent, MOH said.

ACTIVE CLUSTERS UNDER CLOSE MONITORING

MOH said that there are no new emerging large clusters, though it is monitoring nine that already exist.

These clusters “have already been ringfenced through tracing, testing and isolation”, it added.

They include:

  • Bugis Junction mall with 295 cases

  • Five of the bus interchanges at Bishan, Boon Lay, Clementi, Tampines and Toa Payoh with a combined 455 cases

  • Changi General Hospital with 58 cases

  • North Coast Lodge workers' dormitory with 199 cases

  • A construction site at 30 Sunview Way near Boon Lay with 35 cases

Thirty-eight of the new cases on Wednesday have been linked to these nine clusters.

VACCINATIONS

As of Sept 7, 81 per cent of the population had completed their full regimen or received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines, and 83 per cent had received at least one dose.

A total of 8,813,966 doses of Covid-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, which include the Pfizer-BioNTech or Comirnaty and Moderna vaccines, have been administered, covering 4,540,422 individuals.

A total of 4,391,303 individuals have completed the full vaccination regimen.

For other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing such as Sinovac, 174,435 doses had been administered as of Sept 7, covering 86,319 individuals.
