Covid-19: 4 condo residents fined S$300 each for flouting safe distancing measures

SINGAPORE — Four condominium residents and one management corporation have been fined for flouting safe distancing measures, the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) said in a media release on Monday (April 20).

The four residents were fined S$300 each.

One was a resident of a condominium at Irrawaddy Road who used the pool. Another was a resident of a condominium at Flora Road who had taken her children to play by the pool. The third resident was from a condominium at Sims Drive who did not wear a mask at the main entrance.

The fourth case took place at a condominium at Amber Road, where a resident had been found using the common gym after the condominium's management corporation failed to close all the common facilities.

The management corporation was fined S$1,000 for breaching the regulations.

As part of efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, all common facilities in condominiums must be closed, BCA said. This is to reduce movement and interactions in common spaces, and to minimise contact between people from different households.

Residents should also ensure that they do not have visitors to their homes for social purposes, and should not have social gatherings within the estates.

If residents need to leave their homes for valid reasons, they must wear a mask even if they are within the estate compound, BCA added.

BCA said it has conducted checks on more than 230 strata-titled residential developments since April 7, and will continue doing so to ensure that safe distancing measures are followed during the circuit breaker period.

The authority urged management corporations and managing agents to remind residents to comply with the safe distancing measures, and reminded residents to cooperate with the management and comply with the measures.

Residents can also report cases of non-compliance to their management corporations or managing agents, BCA added.
