Covid-19: 618 more cases in Singapore, 7 new clusters including at Northpoint City
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Saturday (April 25) announced 618 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of infections here to 12,693.
This is the second day in a row that the number of daily infections has dipped below 1,000.
Seven new clusters of infections have emerged — ASPRI-Westlite Papan (5 Jalan Papan), Kian Teck Hostel (30 Kian Teck Avenue), SCM Tuas Lodge (80 Tuas South Boulevard), Northpoint City (930 Yishun Avenue 2), 21 Defu South Street 1, a construction site at 8 Martin Place, and a construction site at 107 West Coast Vale.
Of the confirmed cases, 597 are foreign workers residing in dormitories, while 12 are work permit holders residing outside dormitories.
There are also nine community cases, of which seven are Singaporeans or permanent residents, and two are work pass holders.
No imported cases were reported.
MOH added that of the new cases, 81 per cent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.
The main increase on Saturday continues to be for work permit holders residing in dormitories, said MOH, “where we are picking up many more cases because of extensive testing”.
“Most of these cases have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of our hospitals. None of them is in the intensive care unit,” it added.
MOH added that number of new cases among work permit holders residing outside dormitories has continued to increase, from an average of 21 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 26 per day in the past week.
Community cases have decreased from an average of 31 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 23 per day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of 21 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 15 per day in the past week.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” said MOH.
UPDATE ON THE CONFIRMED CASES
In all, MOH said that 1,002 have fully recovered from Covid-19 and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including 46 that were discharged on Saturday.
There are now 1,214 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving.
Twenty-four are in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH said that 10,465 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
To date, 12 patients have died from complications due to Covid-19.
