Covid-19 cluster from KTV lounges grows to 12, with 8 cases among 26 new ones in Singapore
SINGAPORE — Singapore on Tuesday (July 13) recorded 19 new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19, eight of which have been traced to an emerging cluster at karaoke lounges and clubs that are now operating as food-and-beverage (F&B) outlets. The cluster now has 12 cases.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) also said in its nightly update on the coronavirus situation here that there is likely ongoing Covid-19 transmission at three such outlets, which will be closed for two weeks from July 13 to 27.
Four of the new locally transmitted cases in the daily tally have not been linked to any previous infections, the ministry added.
Of the 15 linked cases, five were already placed in quarantine and 10 were detected through surveillance testing. Seven of the 15 cases were linked to Case 64,297 though no further details were given by MOH.
Tuesday's case count bucks a 15-day trend of locally transmitted cases staying in single digits.
A total of 26 new cases were reported, including seven imported cases. Of these, five were detected upon arrival in Singapore and two fell ill during isolation or while serving a stay-home notice.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone up from 24 in the week before to 37 in the past week.
The number of cases in the community that have no known sources of infection has also risen from five in the week before to 12 in the past week.
“The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 3.6 and 1.7 respectively,” MOH said.
Data from MOH showed that the seven-day moving average number of community linked cases has jumped from 1.4 on Monday to 3.6 on Tuesday.
Singapore’s total number of Covid-19 cases is now 62,744.
HOSPITALISED PATIENTS
There are 94 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised.
Of these, seven require supplemental oxygen and another two are in critical condition under intensive care.
Both patients under intensive care are aged above 60. One of them is not vaccinated while the other is partially vaccinated.
The seven who need oxygen aid are all not vaccinated. Five are aged over 60 and the other two are between the ages of 40 and 60.
“There is continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected,” MOH said.
“Over the last 28 days, 22 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to intensive care units or died. Eighteen are unvaccinated, four are partially vaccinated and none are fully vaccinated.”
VACCINATIONS
More than 6.38 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been given to about 4.02 million people as of Monday, the ministry said.
Some 2.37 million people have completed the full vaccination regimen, consisting of 12,170 recovered persons who received at least one dose and close to 2.36 million who received their second dose.
