Covid-19: PM Lee to give live update on circuit breaker measures, next steps at 5pm on April 21

SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be giving an update at 5pm on Tuesday (April 21) on Singapore’s circuit breaker measures and what needs to be done next.

His speech will be broadcast live on television, radio and on his Facebook page.

In a Facebook post, Mr Lee noted that Singapore is two weeks into the circuit breaker measures, which started on April 7 and are due to end on May 4.

“This is an uncertain and worrying time for many of us, especially with the large number of cases in the migrant worker dorms,” he said.

The number of new Covid-19 cases in Singapore exceeded 1,000 on both Monday and Tuesday, with the vast majority of those cases at migrant worker dormitories, the Ministry of Health stated.

Mr Lee added: “Our teams have been working hard to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the dorms, and look after the well-being of our migrant workers.

“I urge everyone to persevere with the circuit breaker measures, and continue to help one another through this outbreak.”

Mr Lee last made comments on the Covid-19 situation on Facebook on Saturday, when he said it would take some time for the circuit breaker measures to show results, adding that the number of Covid-19 cases at foreign worker dormitories may be expected to increase for some time.

Before that, he addressed the nation on Feb 8, March 12 as well as on April 3, when he unveiled the circuit breaker measures.
