SINGAPORE — Singapore on Monday (July 12) recorded eight new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19, three of which have no links to past infections.

The other five cases that were linked to earlier infections have all been placed in quarantine, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement.

In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation here, MOH identified the formation of two new Covid-19 clusters in the community, bringing the number of active clusters here to 22.

The number of cases in each cluster ranges from three to 94.

The latest clusters are linked to Cases 64693 and 64697 though no other details on the cases were available. The first cluster has three cases while the second cluster has four.

In total, there were 26 new cases reported on Monday, the highest daily tally since June 17 when 27 cases were recorded.

These comprised 18 imported cases, of which 13 were detected upon arrival in Singapore and five fell ill during isolation or while serving a stay-home notice.

Overall, MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has gone down from 28 in the week before to 19 in the past week.

The number of cases with no known sources of infection in the community has, however, gone up from four in the week before to 10 in the past week.

“The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 1.3 and 1.4 respectively,” MOH said.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore is now 62,718.

HOSPITALISED PATIENTS

There are 80 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised.

Of these, six require supplemental oxygen and another two are in critical condition under intensive care.

Both patients under intensive care are aged above 60. One of them is not vaccinated while the other is partially vaccinated.

The six who need oxygen aid are all not vaccinated. Four are aged over 60 and the other two are between the ages of 40 and 60.

“There is continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected,” MOH said.

“Over the last 28 days, 22 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to intensive care units or died. Eighteen are unvaccinated, four are partially vaccinated and none are fully vaccinated.”

VACCINATIONS

More than 6.3 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been given to about 3.98 million people as of Sunday, the ministry said.

And more than 2.32 million people have received their second dose and completed the full vaccination regimen.
