Covid-19: Surveillance testing for visitors to Bukit Merah View and Redhill picks up 3 of 4 unlinked cases in community; 21 new infections in total

- Singapore reported 21 new Covid-19 cases on June 19, 14 of which were in the community
- Of the 14, five were linked to the Bukit Merah View market cluster
- The cluster now has 70 cases in total
- There were seven imported cases and no new cases in migrant worker dormitories
- The number of new cases in the community has shot up from 32 in the week before to 109 in the past week
SINGAPORE — An 86-year-old retiree and a 44-year-old foreign domestic worker from Indonesia were among the four Covid-19 cases in the community with no known sources of infection reported on Saturday (June 19).
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its nightly update on the coronavirus situation here that the retiree was tested for Covid-19 on Friday as part of the community surveillance testing for visitors to 115 and 116 Bukit Merah View.
The foreign domestic worker was also tested as part of the community surveillance testing at the same estate, and she was found to have Covid-19 on Friday.
The other two unlinked community cases are a 46-year-old Singaporean woman who is a homemaker, and a 31-year-old Vietnamese woman who works as a pastry maker at Bakery Point at Redhill MRT Station.
“She is asymptomatic, and was detected when she was tested for Covid-19 on June 18 as part of our community surveillance testing for visitors to 86 Redhill Close,” MOH said.
Besides the four unlinked cases, there were 10 other infections in the community that have been linked to past cases.
Of these, five were linked to the cluster at Bukit Merah View Market and Food Centre. There are now 70 confirmed cases in the cluster.
Rounding up the total of 21 new infections reported for the day were seven imported cases who had been placed on stay-home notice upon their arrival here.
Among the seven cases, three are Singaporeans and four are Singapore Permanent Residents. They were returning from India, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community shot up from 32 cases the week before to 109 cases in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from 14 cases in the week before to 18 cases in the past week.
The 10 new cases in the community linked to earlier infections are as follows:

- A 42-year-old Singaporean woman who works as a technical executive at Nanyang Polytechnic
- A 45-year-old female Singapore permanent resident who is an operations employee at packaging company Paxxus
- An 81-year-old Singaporean man who is a retiree
- A 41-year-old Indonesian foreign domestic worker
- A 35-year-old Singaporean woman who works in an administrative role at J Roger Preston, an engineering consultant
NEW CASE IN TEKTRONIX CLUSTER
- A 14-year-old Singaporean boy who is a student at Canberra Secondary School. He is a household contact of a 50-year-old man who is an engineer at equipment manufacturer Tektronix Southeast Asia

A 66-year-old Singaporean man who is retired
An 89-year-old Singaporean woman who is a retired

- A 30-year-old Indonesian woman who is a foreign domestic worker
UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore is now 62,403.
Of these, 62,023 people have fully recovered and been discharged, including 36 on Saturday.
There are still 153 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition under intensive care.
Another 193 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Thirty-four people have died from complications due to the disease.
